What to have ready for Meet the Teacher Night

Hi everyone!!! I hope y'all are doing great and that your classroom is coming along! :)

I know we are not on the week of "Meet the Teacher Night" just yet, but I am sure you are already thinking about it and even planning some stuff for that night! So I wanted to share with you some of the things I do on Meet The Teacher! :)

What I used on that nigt

I have TWO sign-in sheets for both my personal use and to turn in to my school,  a post-it, and my information card.

During Meet the Teacher Night

Before my parents arrive,  I leave the school sign-in sheet on a table by the door for my parents to sign-in. As they come to talk to me, I would write down their information such as phone number, their child's name, and most important, the transportation for the school year. This info would easily change since some of my parents would take and pick them up their kids for the first week or anything like that, but I always encourage my parents and even warned them big time about the importance of transportation in order for their children to arrive and return safely.  It helped me big time to have an extra copy with their number on it in case I needed to contact them on the first day of school. On that sheet (full of scribbles, I would also write any information or concerns parents tell me on that night).

I also had post-its, so while I was talking to parents, I would ask my student to write their name on it and choose a place to sit. They loved the fact that they were choosing were they would sit in the classroom, so that was always a hit :) Yes, I of course would change their choice if it was necessary after school started, but at least it gave them a chance to choose where to sit for the first weeks. And believe me, there were students that were never moved from there because they worked so well that it wasn't necessary to move them.

Last, but definitely not least, I would give them my info card. I would point out the magnet on the back so they wouldn't lose it and place it on their fridge if they wanted to. They all come in English and Spanish. You can edit the text to put your information. Please know that I can't give you access to the font or clip art due to copyright...

Also, I had the following on each desk, ready for them to take as my students pick their seat. I had the following:

2. Handout with my information. I know several bloggers have created the booklet foldable, I know it's SOOO adorable and I just loveee the colors they used. However, I'm honest with y'all, I came up with a simpler way and a simpler foldable that I personally think it will do the work :) Now, it doesn't have as many windows as the other foldable, but this is what I used and it has worked just find for me and the information I gave to my parents.

This foldable contains the basic information I provided to my parents. Say goodbye to the million lose pages!! No more using 10 pages for 10 different things!!! All the info is in this foldable!!!
I created a document on google docs so you can edit the inside only (Please just remember that I can't give you access to the font or clip art due to copyright.) What you can edit is the inside of the document with your own information!
This foldable comes in both color and B/W version. It also comes in both English and Spanish  :)

Classroom Theme anyone???

Hi friends :)
I remember when I had a classroom, I used to start going to my school to it together in the middle of July... don't get me wrong, I used to start in July, but not all day like crazy, just little by little.. I am sure most of you, if not all, are back into your classrooms decorating and maybe some even finish with decorations (because we all know there are some crazy ones that start in July as a full time!)... Anyhow, whatever your case is, I hope you are having a great time and that you are looking forward to a new school year! :)

I want to take some time today to share with you some of the classroom themes I have done in the past.  

This is my most favorite part of what I did that year to decorate my classroom with a Jungle theme was my door. It took me several hours and a few days to finish it, but I loved every single thing of it! :) I have different blog posts, if you want to read these and see more of my classroom on that year, please click on Classroom Tour. I then created a Circus theme classroom decor, but sadly I don't have any pictures of this theme. This theme was when I had just given birth to "Pollita" (my daughter) and I just couldn't think of taking any pictures or posting anything about it.. I only had the energy to get my classroom ready, breastfeed, and if I was lucky, I was able to sleep at night... lol, So I am sorry about that. Last but not least, I want to share this theme... If you are doing a superhero theme this year, you might want to check it out!! I am so excited about this theme. It is so colorful and fun! I really had a great time creating it...

I took some pictures of the sheets so you can have a better preview of what comes in it.

1. Name tags: These come in 3 different styles for boys and 3 different styles for girls. You can edit this document by typing the student's name on it :)

2. Calendar: This calendar comes with numbers, days of the week, months, cupcake pictures for those special birthdays, and cards to point out what day is today, what day was yesterday, and what day will be tomorrow :)

3. Material Tags: I have also included blank cards so you can type in words :) 

4. Word Wall: It comes with all letters in both English and Spanish with four different styles. It comes with blank tags so you can write or type the words.

5. Behavior Chart and Subject Signs (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies).

6. Table Signs in both Spanish and English. My favorite is the Laser Eyed Heroes!! :)

I did not include pictures of the banner, but you can see some of the sheets on the preview picture (the first picture I posted).

You might think I am crazy for decorating a door in my house, but when I did this, I still had one child and therefore I had a "me time"! LOL I am telling you, this makes me happy! Just to decorate and create stuff for the classroom.. I just love it and I can't have enough of it! However, I am not ready to go back to work just yet.. Now I have two little blessings at home that love just being with her mami and mami loves being with them as well :)
Anyhow! If you are looking for a fun decoration, check out my door! It is very simple and inexpensive to do!
I used a roll of blue paper for the background and black paper for the buildings. I used yellow construction paper to make the windows and bought the letters and borders at a teacher store.

I am going to be honest, I was going to stop there. But it looked so empty and sad!!! :( So I used a picture of my face to use as an example. I got some masks and some lighting clip art, print those on color cardstock, and whaalaaa!!

Before I go, I would also like to share with you a Snack that you can give to your students on the first day of school or Meet the Teacher Night. It is so simple and inexpensive! The yellow cereal is "Kix." I have never heard of this cereal before, but I saw it on a "healthy school list snack" and I tried it; it tastes pretty good! If you do not want to use that one, you can also use Corn Pops. I also used this with a colorful cereal, which is the Cap'n Crushs Oops all berries, but you can also use Trix or Froot Loops Loopers.

End of the year Awards PLUS a Linky Party with a TPT giftcard giveaway!

Hello friends and welcome back! I had been very good at blogging more often than a week. However, the last time I posted was a few weeks ago. The reason of it? Well, baby boy is on the way and there is so much to do PLUS having a toddler at home makes it a little harder to clean and organize! So I am sorry if I have not been around since my last post!

Today I want to share with you my awards! It is that time of year when you start thinking what kind of awards your students will achieve and preparing them. I am here to show you a couple of my free samples that I have in my store for you!

The first set of awards I created was when I taught second grade and it was just a general one without any theme. My classroom theme was just animal prints so I didn't really want anything specific.


The Free Sample comes with three awards, in both color and B/W versions. These only come in English, so I'm sorry, but I never had the time to create the whole thing in Spanish. This sample is found on the preview of the product, so you will see the cost of the product and won't see the free sample by itself.

I would like to share with you how I used the general award in my class. Like I mentioned, I didn't have a specific theme so I created the rock star student award. I gave this type of award to all of my students along with a goody bag.
These are pictures of my goody bags :) Each bag had a card (click HERE if you would like to download it from my Google Docs, they come in color and B/W with a boy and girl version), two erasers (a guitar and pick) from Geddes (they are not available anymore there, but you can find them on amazon), a pair of glasses that are called "shutted shades" (purchased at a craft store - Hobby Lobby), and a glowing in the dark bracelet (purchased at Dollar Tree).

This is a picture of the award that everyone got in my class, along with the goody bag. I had a girl and boy version, so I also made bags for boys and girls (same goodies, just different colors and cards).

Oh boy! I'm telling y'all, they all loved their award and goody bag so much! Some of them even showed me the next year they still had some of the goodies from there (I moved up with them to third grade). Hope you like these as much ad I did when I made for my kids :)

The second set I created was all about Jungle stuff!! These awards are different from the first, not only because it has an actual theme, but also because it is editable; all you need is Power Point. I have included instructions when you click on the editable section. Editable means you can type your name and the student's name. Please be aware that "editable" means typing names only, I can't make the titles or the clipart editable due to illustrators copyright. Just in case you forget, I have included that information on the product :) Like I said, it is based on a jungle theme, so most of all (if not all) has jungle illustrations :)

I wasn't able to give these awards to my kids because I was already on maternity leave. Therefore, I wasn't able to make any goody bags for them this time. However, I did include a general award for all of them. Since I had a jungle theme, I included a "Wild Student Award" that everyone received. This is a preview of what comes in the paid product. Then, of course, I started thinking about different grade levels (because you know, I have been in Pre-k, 2nd, and 3rd!!), that's what it does to your brain when you have been in different levels... This freebie comes in both English and Spanish as well! So after I finished it, I took the great opportunity to print a couple copies and have fun with them!! So here they are:

Last, but not least... I wanted to share with you an idea that I am sure I am not the only one.. HOWEVER, I still wanted to do my own and share it with y'all...
I know as a teacher, I am busy busy with lessons, teaching, parents, emails, meetings, etc. I think sometimes time goes by so quickly that I forget to do something special for my students... So I thought of a not so expensive and fast way to give them something... Somthing little, simple, and candy-free treat. I remember back then, when I did my Wild Theme (you can click there to see my past post) at the beginning of our school year, my students got so excited and felt so special... It was only animal crackers, but they loved it!!

Freebies for St. Patrick's

I'm so happy to be back in a week!! I feel I'm getting on a roll now (yeah right, it might change after this post)... but let me tell you, this comes with a price... my house is not as neat as it should be!!

Well, I always put "Pollita" first and then when I have a little bit of a time (of course when hubby is not at home), I take care of my stuff... there's something about creating products that really gets me excited and relaxes me!! So here I am again... (I know, don't you look so excited to see me?!?!)

Better late than never!! Volcanoes, Christmas party, and freebie tags

So it's been wayyyy too long since my last post, but as you know the last week of school before Christmas it's CRAZY!!!! Not to mention lesson plans, grades, and a family trip out of town... Now we are back to a warmer weather in Texas! We get back tomorrow with a training and Tuesday I'll be seeing my monkeys again :)

Before I share with y'all my trip, I wanted to refer back to my Landforms post; I added more pictures and a couple more activities to it, click on Landforms please :)

On the last week of school before Christmas, we talked about volcanoes and did a fun/quick experiment to observe how volcanoes erupt. Here is a picture of our foldable:

For our Volcano experiment, we just added baking soda, food coloring (red and yellow to make an orange lava color), and vinegar... My students first built their volcano with play-dough; then poured vinegar into the hole (each group had a mini cup containing vinegar), added two drops of yellow and red food coloring, and at last added two tea spoons of baking soda.

For our Christmas party, we watched "The Polar Express" and I gave a couple gifts to my students. They automatically recognized the box by saying "just like in the movie!" They all loved the little box and I think it turned out super cute! :)

I purchased the mini bows from Wal-Mart and I made the tickets myself. To make the tickets look more sparkly I bought a spray bottle from Michaels. Here is a picture of the bottle and it is called "Color Shine" and it's basically a spray that gives a sparkly look to the paper...

 

 

 

 

I also made these mini bags that contain hot chocolate bags and mini marshmallows:

Remember my post on recycling construction paper? Well, we finally got a chance to use the paper! We made small Christmas cards with it and they turned out super cute! :)

I just wanted to share with you before I leave what I did over my Christmas break... We spent all my the break in VA and MD. Before I got married, I used to live with my mom in MD so when I moved to Texas, she moved to Virginia. My husband's family live in Maryland as well, so we were going to these two states the whole time.
It's been long, long, too long since I have been in a descent snow day, so my sister and I have been praying for some snow... whatever the amount, a lot of it or just a little bit of it.. at least before we both leave Virginia.... So we got some! Here is a collage picture of how my mom's neighborhood looked after it stopped snowing:

We were so happy!! At least we got to enjoy the VERY cold weather for a day :)
