Top Secret Word Study Center

Hi everyone!!
It has sure been a while my friends!
Going back to teaching and having two kids at home is a whole different ball game y'all!
I have been creating here and there, but nothing is complete neither ready to put on my store. So hang in  there with me! I have been posting some on my instagram page, so if there is something you are interested, send me a message and I will try my best to post the product!

Today, I am super excited to show you what I have been doing since we started centers. The kids really enjoying using the blacklight flashlights!

The product includes English and Spanish instructions for students and a recording sheet. The cards are blank, so you can write your own words with the special markers.
I included the same links on one of the slides of the product, to be more handy.

In order for this center to work, you will need the following items:

Ultraviolet blacklight Flashlights

Invisible UV Blacklight Ink

How it works

I personally love that my students get to walk around the classroom during centers. During this time, they have more freedom and I let them walk around the classroom. Therefore, I place all my cards around my room. The center contains the blank cards, the instructions, and a report sheet where my students write the words they found, on the correct number.

I need to write the words with those special markers, so I write them first and then I laminate the cards. The ink will stay, so no worries about it fading away. Then, let the magic happen!

The kids really do enjoy this center!
I have up to four students in that center. Each student has a flashlight and they walk around my classroom with the report sheet on a clipboard. I asked them not to tell their group partners where the cards are placed. It is not that much fun when you find the words in 5 minutes because your friend already told you where all of them are placed. However, I have witnessed that most of them help each other when some are getting frustrated they can't find the cards (I promise I really don't hide them, but some have a hard time finding them all), so in that case, I let them... just because I see team work and not students who just don't feel like looking for cards around the classroom.

I have created 20 blank cards, but I honestly only use 16 of them. 15 words are part of our weekly word sudy list, and I leave one for a funny phrase for the kids to read. They always look forward for that funny card!

All you need is LOVE!

Whoaaaaa!!!
I have not posted anything since November my friends! I am so sorry about that! Truth be told, I have been out of the country for a whole month! We decided to spend Christmas in Peru with my family (I am originally from there, in case you didn't know). My husband stayed with us for two and a half weeks, and I stayed for a month with the kids. My Grandma's 78th birthday was on January 11th so many relatives came from overseas and from other parts of Peru to celebrate HER. I was so blessed that my mom offered me to fly over to Texas with the kids and me; otherwise, I don't think I could have been able to come back on my own with two little kids (cheers for all those brave and strong moms who do that!).

Anyways! After giving my whole reason of why I have been absent for so long, I would like to do a little reminder of things I have for FREE and paid products for Valentine's!!!

First, I wanted to share one of my favorite Valentine's freebies. I think Mr. Heart came out really cute! Your students could write a letter to another friend in the classroom, or write about what they like about Valentine's or write about a favorite part of a valentine's story! Your options are endless!!! PLUS, I think they would look so cute on a bulletin board, don't you think?? Click HERE to download it :)

So after Mr. Heart, I felt pretty cool, but then I found these AMAZING pattern paper that I HAD to buy!!!! Don't you agree with me???

So after a few hours thinking what cute things I could do with these papers, I thought about a real envelope that kids can do! I'm HORRIBLE with origami, so I hope you are not expecting that awesome and complicated method level of origami! HA!

I looked on Google for EASY ways to make an envelope, and I found soooo many options! Most of them were too hard for this teacher :| 

I found this great website where there are many different templates, but I didn't want to go that far at this time, I just wanted simple steps and not having to make copies of the pattern and cut and so on... HOWEVER, if you would like to check it out, please DO! She really has great ideas different websites for different types of envelopes! Click HERE to take you there :)

I also found this picture with steps on how to do an envelope from a heart shape. So I thought it would be cute for students to write a short note on the back of the heart (the blank side), make the envelope, and just glue it with a foam sticker or something that when you open it, you would open the whole letter at once!

Here are my pictures and how my envelope came up :) Not so perfect, but I think it would do the trick...

Then, I found this picture, I thought it was pretty simple and the steps were pretty clear, so I gave it a try.. I am NOT good at any of these things, so believe me when I tell you: "If I can do it, so can you!" I got this picture from Making Friends

I personally skipped the pattern and I tried to skip steps that I saw they were not a big deal. Mine didn't come up as perfect as it shows on the picture (of course, that happens when you skip steps on the instructions! Lol). However, I think for students and the purpose of it, it was pretty good! :)

So along with this cute envelope, I created a Free letter pattern for kids to write a letter to a friend.... I think the best way to do this (so everyone gets a letter and no one gets more than anyone else), might be for them to choose a partner or you can even choose partners randomly!

I love this story because it shows how important it is not to love people for their looks! Mini Erasers Fans and Addicts Report!!

  

Hi friends! I know I have not been around much! We have moved to another house, while putting our home for sale, plus having the kids make all of this a little bit more difficult! While all this craziness has been taken place, I have been working so hard lately to get this unit done!! So today I would like to blog about my addiction to mini erasers (I am sure you already believe me based on my picture)!!!!

If you follow me on my Instagram (@brincaintobilingual), you already know my addiction for those little mini erasers! I started a long time ago when I just started teaching (more than 4 years ago), but they were not as popular as they are right now. However, my love and addiction for them has always been there!

Once I get back in the classrom, I will have ALL my mini erasers (some are packed in my garage) so I am planning on making another blog post regarding storage and more pictures or even some videos while my students use them!

Meanwhile, I am planning ahead on creating a product that can be used along with the mini erasers as a whole group or in centers. I am not really sure WHY I took so LONG to start this unit. I have always used them in my classroom from one way or another. This time, after having so many bags, I promised myself I was not going to leave it incomplete and that I was going to finish it! My plan of a 100-pages unit turned into 200 pages and then I ended up making 9 folders! 

This unit has turned into one of my favorite units (go figured huh?)!!! I am planning on adding more themes as I get a chance to catch up (adding those mermaids, donuts, aliens, etc) AND as more mini erasers are added at Target! If you are interested, but then you say "I don't have all of them, so can I could I use this activity?" NO PROBLEM! I got you covered! I included mini counters for you to use instead of the mini erasers!

The unit is mainly for 2nd and 3rd grade. However, I included 1st grade in the description because you can always use SOME activities with the above grade level students in 1st grade!

Easter bunnies are ready for you!!! Freebie and a Unit!

Hello everyone!!!
Can you believe we are already posting about bunnies and Easter eggs?!

OMG Where has time gone?! Last year as I was posting this, I was about to have a baby boy, plus having an almost two year old daughter... Now I am about to have a THREE-YEAR-OLD daughter and a ONE-YEAR-OLD son! :'( Let me cry a little bit!!!!

Anyhow! Enough of that! right?!

I would like to share with you once again my freebie! On this activity, two students can work together or independently. Each get a bunny with a wheeler; they spin it and mark on their laminated graph with a dry-erase marker. They stop spinning once any of the items have reached the top. MAKE SURE THEY DON'T ERASE THEIR RESULTS, THEY'LL BE USING IT ON THEIR BOOKLET.
Next, students record their result on the paper graph. Once they finished recording it on the graph sheet (they need to color the eggs as well), they can start writing their conclusions on the question section. Once they are finished with all the work, they can work on their booklet by coloring the front cover.

I also wanted to share with ya'll my Chick Craftivity freebie. I created this little friend a while back when I taught second grade. We read books and different facts about chickens. Then, my students took notes and wrote about different things they have learned about the life cycle of a chicken. Read Across America Day!!! Theme Unit WITH a Freeeebieeeeeee :)

This past week has been amazing and so heartwarming! Thank you to all my followers and all my friends who have join me on this awesome celebration! I have seen so many entries and so many messages with a "thank you" and congratulations! Thank you ALL so very much!!

I am very happy to write this blog post! I get very excited on these upcoming days! There is no secret I enjoy celebrating and I JUST LOVE Read Across America Day! I have so much fun reading and doing activities with my students about THAT cat and other characters! :)

First of all, I wanted to share with you an oldie, but a goodie activity I did with my students before. Because we are not allowed to create anything relate to Seuss (or anything like that) and put it up on a selling website, I decided to make something with the products they provide at their own website! I got the patterns from Seussville on this link: http://www.seussville.com/Educators/educatorClassroomResources.php?id=printables#6 

They have tons of different sheets and activities you can use :) I used the "Elephant Ears" sheet from there. The face of the elephant I just kinda drew it at that moment, but again, because we can't create anything to share, I don't even think I saved it (so sorry!). To make the dust speck, I got a bunch of green pipe cleaners and some sparkly pom-poms. My students colored the elephant and they cut and paste true/false statements based on the book. I think they would have came up better if we only used gray construction paper, but I really wanted them to do some coloring and make these on their own, instead of just cutting and gluing. Here is a picture of what they looked like! I was really happy how they turned out :)

I also want to share with you what might be a good activity for this upcoming days for those little ones and maybe up to 3rd grade if you are still working on rhyming :)

I have a UNIT SAMPLE for FREE! I have a memory game for rhyming words. This game can be played by 2 or more students (independently) or you can even use it during small groups (if that's a skill you are working on with them). I can think about a whole class demonstration as well if it's needed. Nevertheless, I think this simple and yet fun game can be a good fit for your class! :)

After I created a sample, I knew I had to do a whole THEME UNIT. So, here is my unit with different centers for both Math and ELA or SLAR.
Both of the packets (Spanish and English) contains the following centers:
[1] Nouns vs. Verbs: instructions, 20 cards, answer key and activity sheet to give as an independent activity or use as an assessment.
[2] ABC order, 15 cards, instructions, answer key, and sheet to record their work.
[3] Writing Craftivity: Write about your favorite birthday and create a fun birthday cake!

Math:
[1] Fishy Probability: Mini cards to laminate and cut, instructions, Probability sheets, and Probability answer sheet.
[2] I knew it was true: addition and subtraction cards (with regrouping and without regrouping), instructions, 20 cards, answer key, and activity sheet to give as an independent activity or use as an assessment.
[3] Hooray for Arrays!: 20 cards (10 sets), instructions, and recording sheet to show work or use as an assessment.

New Unit - Complete Sentences with a Free Sample!

Hello everyone and welcome back!!!
Today I want to share the AWESOME NEWS (at least for me)!!! I have finished a small unit, YAYYY!!!!! I am very happy and I feel very accomplished that I finished this unit on time and by the date I wamted to finish it!!
Sooooooo I would like to share with you what I have created, and of course, I will not leave you empty handed.. I have a FREE SAMPLE to go with it!!

This is a peek of what the unit contains. I just created one for English, because the one in Spanish is THE WHOLE SAME THING, except for the language :) This is a perfect unit to do during these weeks! 1. Foldable to sort sentences.
2. Sorting sentences between complete vs incomplete.
3. Game board to identify complete and incomplete sentences.
4. Identify complete and incomplete sentences using a cloth pin.
